SPOTTING OUR ACTORS
Over our 59 years of touring we have employed thousands of actors, and we are always very excited and proud to see what they have moved on to do afterwards. Spotting ex-Globies on television is a regular fun activity, and we try to get to the theatre and see as many shows featuring them as we can.
Recently we have seen Nigel Barrett who played Oberon, Romeo and many other parts with us in the 1990s at our famous namesake theatre, Shakespeare’s Globe, in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse in Cymbeline.
Anjelica Serra, Lady Macbeth and Mrs Birling with us just a few years ago, was fabulous in the amazing verbatim play Tending at the Riverside Studios in Hammersmith.
There is even a chance coming up to see an ex-Globie from many years ago in Celebrity Traitors! Celia Imrie had one of her first jobs with us as the Lilac Fairy in The Sleeping Beauty! And if you are venturing to the cinema to see The Toxic Avenger then you’ll see the lovely Luisa Guerreiro, who performed with us for many years, as the lead role of Toxie – played partly by Peter Dinklage, but Luisa was the physical performer behind 70% of the character!
And our current team don’t stop working just because its the summer holidays! Oliver Stephens, our resident company manager, director, actor and all round superstar has directed a fabulous Edinburgh show, taking his Globey Shakespeare knowledge up to Scotland for Shakespeare for Breakfast and Shakespeare for Kids, along with our latest Macbeth/Romeo recruit Amaru Narvaez. If you’re heading to the festival do start your day with them at C Aurora.
In London you can also see the wonderful Andre Bullock, one of our team of Romeo, Inspector and Macbeths in the big immersive Elvis Evolution show that opened recently at the London Excel. And Chioma Nwalioba, our lovely Juliet, Shiela, Lady Macbeth will be at the Riverside Studios this summer in At Once Before and After as part of the Bitesize Festival. And Imogen Wilde, another fabulous Juliet/Shelia/Lady M (but also sometimes Mrs Birling/Lady Capulet/Lennox – so versatile!), is to be seen on tv in series 2 of the Australian comedy series Austin.
