I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and your team for a fantastic performance yesterday. It was absolutely brilliant. Oli, Tom, Imogen and Jaz were all incredibly talented and professional and it was fantastic to give this experience to our young people who have missed a lot of these opportunities at school. Dear Tony and the Globe Players cast and crew,

I wanted to write to say a huge thank you for coming to our school again and again over the past few years, and for the extraordinary work you have done with our students.

Your performances have helped our students see, hear and feel their core texts in a completely different way. The 60-minute adaptations are cleverly judged, especially for learners who may find the full length and density of Shakespeare challenging. For many of our students, that is just about where their concentration and stamina can be stretched meaningfully, and the combination of performance, explanation, humour, historical context and cultural contextualising really helps them understand the significance of what is happening.

For some students, the performances have helped them map the plot and understand the events more clearly, which is something many of our learners still need. But the impact has gone far beyond comprehension. Seeing the texts in live action has developed their imagination, given them vivid mental pictures, created genuine buy-in, and provoked their own criticality. They have started thinking about whether they would make the same directorial choices, whether they imagined the characters in that way, and how effectively an actor’s choices can bring the page to the stage.

Students have made comments afterwards that show just how much the performances have stayed with them. Some have asked how they might get into acting themselves. Some have reflected on how actors learn lines, and whether those tactics could help them learn quotations for exams. Others have commented on how powerful it is to see diversity among actors performing classical theatre, especially when traditional classical theatre is often represented by one narrow group. Several students have also said that the performances changed their minds about the texts, because seeing them performed helped them understand the emotion, conflict and drama in a way they had not fully grasped before.

The Globe Players do an amazing job. You are knowledgeable, engaging and full of presence, and your voices and performances carry such quality. It is a real gift for our students to feel something close to West End acting quality brought directly into school.

Thank you for the expertise, energy and care you bring each time. It really does make a difference to how our students experience literature, performance and Shakespeare.
